  • Radish (mooli) needs loose, well-draining soil so its roots don't meet resistance as they grow.
  • Choose a spot with at least 6-8 hours of daily sunlight.
  • If growing in a container, use one deep enough for the roots to grow long and straight.
  • Sow seeds directly where they'll grow, radish doesn't transplant well.
  • Plant about 0.5-1.25cm deep, spaced 10-15cm apart.
  • Water immediately after planting and keep the soil consistently moist, especially through the first week.
  • Water regularly to maintain moisture, but avoid overwatering, which leads to excessive leaf growth and woody roots.
  • For a continuous supply, sow a new row or two of seeds every couple of weeks through the growing season.

A common winter vegetable across North and western India; its leaves are also used in regional cooking.

  • Eaten raw in salads, pickled, cooked into curries and parathas; the leaves are also cooked in many cuisines.

These uses are documented for information only and are not medical advice. Always verify the species and the plant part before use.

Widely cultivated across India, including Gujarat.
