  • Soaking seeds in water or amrut jal for 10-12 hours can speed up germination.
  • Choose a sunny spot with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight, ridge gourd thrives in warm, humid climates.
  • Prepare well-drained soil, ideally sandy loam rich in organic matter.
  • Sow seeds about 1-2 inches deep, spaced 1-2 feet apart in the ground, or 4-5 inches apart in a pot.
  • Provide a trellis or other support for the climbing vines.
  • Water regularly, especially during flowering and fruiting.
  • Avoid overwatering, letting the soil dry slightly between waterings.
  • Apply vermicompost or cow dung compost 10 days after sowing, and add a little more every 15 days.
  • Harvest the fruit when it's 6-8 inches long.

A common vegetable in Indian regional cuisines; mature luffa has traditional household uses as a natural scrubber.

  • Young fruit is cooked as a vegetable; mature, dried fruit forms a fibrous natural loofah.
